ADVANCED TRAINING GROUP

Advanced Psychotherapy Professional Training for Deeper Clinical and Professional Practice

Professional Training Group for Advanced TA Training

The Advanced Training Group consists of three 5-day modules each year, for two years. It is the third step in the academy’s professional pathway for those seeking to gain certification in the clinical and professional use of TA. It offers advanced Transactional Analysis training in the fields of psychotherapy, counselling, organisations and education. It covers a wide range of topics, with ongoing support, applied learning and progression towards CTA qualification.

What You Will Gain

Advanced Training gives you deeper understanding, stronger professional confidence and a more substantial pathway towards Transactional Analysis certification.

Deepen Professional Understanding

Explore client diagnosis, treatment planning and advanced clinical thinking in greater depth. You will develop the ability to “read” groups/organisations as living systems, integrating insight with group dynamics.

Strengthen Therapeutic Practice

Develop your capacity to work with more complex client presentations, ruptures, attachment dynamics and relational process. Using insights from TA theorists, you will strengthen your ability to work at the interface between individual distress and family/group systems.

Cultural Awareness

Culturally respectful and responsive training that is ethical, inclusive and meaningful within the context of New Zealand recognising the many traditions, identities and lived experiences that shape the people who come to learn here.

Expand Your Framework

Work with a broader range of TA theory, including psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, relational and integrative approaches. You will draw on contributions from organisational TA theorists expanding your capacity to move fluidly between clinical, relational and organisational lenses.

Integrate Modern Developments

Engage with neuroscience, the role of the body, creativity and contemporary approaches to trauma and personal transformation. This supports work not only with individuals, but with organisations as environments that either constrain or enable wellbeing and creativity.

Dealing with Script Backlash

Understanding how and why change can trigger familiar resistance or old patterns. The psychoanalytical depth of TA will enable you to appreciate the true causes of regressive and ‘stuck’ behaviours.

TA Alignment With Other Approaches

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Prepare for Certification

Build the knowledge, experience and support needed for CTA-related progression and examination preparation.

Grow as a Practitioner

Develop both professional competence and personal growth within a supportive and intellectually stimulating learning environment.

Outcomes & Certification

Advanced Training includes:

This training is designed to support serious personal and professional development, deeper practice and movement towards recognised Transactional Analysis certification which is recognised by PBANZ for those who choose the psychotherapy field and break out groups.

Where Advanced Training Can Lead

The Advanced Training Group follows TA Foundations and TA in Practice and forms the advanced stage of the TA Academy pathway. It is where students move from core understanding and practical application into deeper, more sustained professional development.

From here, the pathway looks like this:

  • TA Foundations gives you a practical grounding in the core models of TA

  • TA in Practice develops your ability to apply those models professionally

  • Advanced Training takes you into deeper theory, advanced practice and certification-related progression

  • CTA / PBANZ and NZAC-related pathways may become relevant depending on your field, goals and prior qualifications

This is the stage for people who want to commit more fully to serious psychotherapy training or advanced professional development in TA.

Entry Requirements

Advanced Training is intended for people who have already completed the earlier stages of the pathway, including TA Foundations and TA in Practice, or who have equivalent prior learning accepted by the Academy. These earlier modules provide the grounding needed for deeper advanced work.

This programme is not designed as a first step. It is for people who are ready for a more substantial training commitment, including coursework, Zoom sessions, competency evaluation and deeper professional engagement over time.

Places are secured by deposit. Full payment details and payment options are provided during the booking process.

If you are unsure whether this is the right level for you, the best next step is to speak directly with Mandy and Gerry.
